Scaffoldings for construction
Scaffoldings are used to support people and other materials during construction or repairs on buildings and other large structures. It is a temporary structure of modular system made up of metal pipes and tubes. It can also be made up of other materials like bamboo or wood. Scaffoldings are custom made to fit any form of building so that these tall structures will not fall down into disrepair because of the lack of maintenance. With scaffoldings, workers can freely walk around construction sites of tall buildings to do their jobs properly.
Main Function
Scaffoldings are important in the billion-dollar construction industry. It helps workers build, paint, construct and clean the exteriors of buildings and other large structures whatever their heights are. Scaffoldings must be constructed following the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations. With this, scaffoldings will be able to support construction workers safely protecting their lives while they do their jobs.
Types of scaffoldings
There are different kinds of scaffoldings that are appropriate to the kind of structure construction workers are working on. Some of the examples of scaffoldings are suspended scaffolds, catenary scaffolds, trestle ladder scaffolds and step scaffolds.
Suspended Scaffolds
Suspended scaffolds serve the purpose of elevating or lowering down construction workers. It is suspended by pulleys at the top of the building with a cradle hanging over the edge to pull or lower the workers to the place where work is needed.
Supported Scaffolds
Supported scaffolds starts from the bottom of the building going up to support workers when they work at the lower parts of the building or structure workers are working on. It has walkways and ladders that enables construction workers to go to the part of the structure where there is maintenance needed.
How to use Scaffolds
To utilize scaffolds properly, there are some guidelines one must follow. If these guidelines are properly followed, the safety of the workers can be ensured and the building or the structure workers are working on will turn out to be how it is supposed to be. This way, you will also be able to avoid spending more for your scaffolding rentals. Here are the guidelines one must follow:
First you must measure the total length of the area where the scaffoldings will be used. Make sure you measure the area by feet using tape measure.
After measuring the length of the area, it is also vital that you measure the height of the structure where work must be done.
Know the current cost of the daily rentals of scaffolds from the nearest building supply center or construction equipment rental establishments.
Divide the total length of the structure by the length of the scaffoldings and divide the height of the working area by the height of the scaffoldings. By adding all of these numbers, you will know how much scaffoldings you will need.
Know how much you will need for the rentals of the certain amount of scaffoldings you need and multiply it by how many days you will need it to finish the work needed for the certain building or structure.
